In order to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, many fitness franchises have implemented a variety of precautions to help keep members safe. Since August 1, Planet Fitness -- the company with more members than any other gym -- is requiring its patrons to wear a mask at all locations. While the rule does not apply while actively working out, and is in accordance with local guidelines, the message is clear: mask on!
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined several reasons why covering up is beneficial during the pandemic. Mainly, since COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, masks minimize the risks of transmitting the virus. Fit: There's nothing worse than having a face mask sag or fall off while you're moving.
Antimicrobial features: Since sweat and moisture can be a breeding ground for bacteria, masks that have some type of filter or antimicrobial coating are ideal for physical activity.
