the process of progress

Perceptions vs Reality of what it takes to get results. Sometimes its the message and sometimes its the messenger, even if its us. The issue some of us have with looking to reach the next step in our goals is that we haven’t been there yet. Similar to how it feels when you’re trying a new exercise or adding more weight on a lift. With that being said, it’s sometimes difficult to determine if the effort we’re using is enough or if it’s just that the process itself is incorrect. It may be a bit of both but here I discuss how to align your perception with reality to make sure you’re seeing things with a clear view.

MasterinG the internal dialogue

Often times it’s not about the obstacles and events that occur around us, it’s what we tell ourselves about our ability to overcome them. Regardless of if you’re conscious of it or not, the internal dialogue that develops in the face of adversity is a huge component of how we interact with and perceive the world around us. As well as our positioning and self image as it relates to our place in the world. Affirmations and other strategies to raise our awareness and ability to handle discomfort are directly related to the deeper intrinsic values we hold onto. Here I give some perspective on the way we talk to ourselves and how to build ourselves into resilient and capable beings.

QUALITY VS QUANTITY: What’s the key to making lasting change?

When it comes to growth and development, specifics are EVERYTHING. You need the proper quality AND quantity when you’re trying to reach new levels. Regardless of if you’re trying to cut weight, gain muscle or just bring about new habit changes, it takes careful and appropriate planning to make sure consistent steps forward continue to happen.

PROGRESS IS A PROCESS... SO TRUST IN A PROPER PROCESS

Fluidity and evolution are absolutely crucial to long term and continued success in anything that we aim to achieve. As things change and new circumstances or adaptations arise, we must remain just as dedicated to changing and evolving as well to properly maximize our abilities at those ne levels. Mike Tyson famously said "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" and I couldn't agree more. Life is inevitably going to catch us all with a right hook we didn't see coming. In that moment it is your ability to choose the proper alternative to achieving the original goals we set out for, that makes all the difference. In the fitness world this is even more important as we are constantly battling our evolutionary response to pain and discomfort in an effort to achieve desired results. As Bruce Lee so eloquently stated, "..be water my friend"

YOU vs you: Overcoming obstacles and compensations

When it comes to overcoming obstacles in life we must remember that the most important and often toughest battle, starts in our own mind. The difficulty of pushing past physical stress brought on in the gym is one of the best teachers we can use to gain insight into ways to address challenges in our everyday personal lives.
